If you have been my patients, you may recall this concept that I often mentioned during our sessions. Each of us is the best healer for ourselves because we are with ourselves 24 hours by 7 days. We know ourselves the best unless you choose to neglect. Therefore, it is important to claim the responsibility of our health. Medical professions can advise you how to be healthy again.

There are many aspects we have to consider in terms of having a healthier lifestyle. It is important to be mindful of the connection of our mind, spirit and body.

How to take care of your body?
You may have heard we are what we eat. This means that our diet affects our body and emotion directly or indirectly. We all know that we love to eat delicious food. Have we ever read the nutritional label on the food package? Have we thought of what the food is going to be once they are inside our bodies? Have we thought of what kind of nutrients does your meal provide to your body?

Every day, our body needs sufficient amount of protein, mixed vitamins, omega, and smaller amount of other nutrients. When we don't get a balanced nutrients from the food we eat, over the time, our bodies will start to manifest some subtle symptoms such as headache, mood swings, muscle spasms, PMS (for women), and the list goes on and on. When you explain to primary care physicians. He or she may not be able to diagnosis what is wrong with you with the general blood work. That is when people find alternative healthcare seems to help to relieve your symptoms and help you feel better. But you also notice you seem to have to keep up with the weekly session with your alternative healthcare providers. This could be avoided by taking an ownership of your own health, and start from adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Of course, diet is only one of the factors. There are many factors involved in causing healthy issues. But from the physical perspective, I would highly recommend to adopt the following into your lifestyle:
  • have a balanced diet and be mindful of what you eat, and drink enough water. I have listed some essential kitchen items here and their images at the bottom of this page. the above items are also very good combination to lower cholesterols.
    • Sea Salt or Himalayan Sea Salt
    • Liquid aminos protein concentration - are a very good substitute of soy sauce, and it tastes delicious too.
    • avocado oil - It is one of the healthiest cooking oil. Some studies think it is better than olive oil because it has a higher tolerance of heat level. However, olive oil is a highly recommended oil to have at home as well, especially for salad.
    • Ghee - it is a very good substitute for butter if you are conscious of gaining weight
    • organic cane sugar or brown sugar
    • seeds - good omega source. Usually I like to mix them into my pancakes. Make sure eat balanced amount of omega 6 and omega 3. Otherwise, too much of omega 6 without enough omega 3 to balance out, it could cause inflammation in the body.
      • Chia seeds - are very good resources for omega 6
      • organic flex seeds - are a very good resource for omega 6
      • hemp heart seeds - good resource for proteins and omega 3
    • Quinoa - a very good resource for proteins. You could mix it into your salad.
    • Oatmeal - high fibers. It is a good breakfast option.
    • Arrowroot flour - is a very good gluten free substitute for starch flours. It is also very good in helping to clean alcohol from our body system, and good for stiff neck.
    • tumeric - is anti-inflammatory and good for a healthier liver
    • organic ginger powder - anti-food poisoning. Also it is very good for vegetarians.  One of the must have items when cook with vegetables or eating salad. It is also very good to drink as tea when you feel like starting to have cold. It is also good in the winter time to prevent you from catching cold.
    • teas
      • cornsilk - highly recommended all women should have at home. Boil it with water to make tea and drink it regularly to help relieve or prevent urinary tract infection.
  • Do regular exercise:
    • walk at least 30 minutes per day or at least three to four days a week. Your body will start burning the stored fat after 30 minutes cardio exercise.
    • do yoga at least 1 to 2 times a week. It really helps your body to gain the flexibility and be more connected between your mind and your body. It helps to destress and allows your body to relax.
    • after your 30 minutes walking, try to follow with a mild weight training to tone your muscles
  • Spend some alone time everyday. It could be 10 minutes if you don't have time. During this time, it is all about you: how you feel emotionally, physically and think of things or people that make you happy. There is no work, no family, or no drama. You could utilize your commute time as your alone time. Then you won't be stressed when there is traffic if you drive.

We will continue on how to take care of our mind? How to make sure the balance of our mind, soul and body.
